Association football, also called simply football, is an organized sport played by a spherical object, usually between two competing teams of eleven players. It is the most popular sport in the world, with more than 250 million people playing it in more than 200 nations and de facto populations. The object itself is referred to as a ball, which is inflated by a process of pumping air through a tube. The ball is rolled across the playing area by the team who have been designated to play that game; the object is hit using a ball made out of hard plastic or rubber.
As you can see football has a long history. However, over the years the game has changed quite extensively. Nowadays you will find soccer played anywhere there is an empty space; even inside the office. Football has always been played as a social game, with friends, families and colleagues sitting down to watch the matches, formulating bets and generally having a good time.
This game has its roots in European and American football. It was first played with two teams in the late nineteenth century, using a round ball made from a hard rubber like material with open holes on the surface. The football was eventually adopted by the Association football, played with a rectangular ball of similar material with holes on the surface. Because of the fast-paced nature of Association football, the football quickly developed rules that dictated what could be done on the field, especially regarding the use of the ball. The first ever World Cup tournament was held in Germany in 1990, and since then the World Cup has been held every four years.
During those times, football was a popular sport with many of the population because it was inexpensive and accessible. The Football Association of England played regular season games on neutral grounds during the year. During the winter months the association would schedule a few cup matches, usually against top sides from Europe. The matches often ended with a penalty kick for not playing the ball properly. The football revolution in England came about when the industrial revolution swept through the country. Team managers were replaced by enthusiastic and skilled footballers who began to play for the local clubs and earn a tidy profit from the match.
Since its early days, football has always had an emotional component to it. It is not uncommon to see loyal followers of a team wearing the colors of their team, even if they are not playing. The game of football has always been a passion and the competition among national teams is huge. To this day, football is the most popular international sport in the world.
